Everything is tougher in the summer. Normal, routine things like going to work, running errands, and exercising are much more challenging in 90+ temperatures. We Miamians are in the midst of Spa Month, a brilliant tradition that started seven years ago, which offers deep discounts on treatments at many of our city’s luxurious spas. Starting July 1, Spa Month lasts throughout the entire month of August.

Miami has lots of interesting boroughs. Each neighborhood boasts its own personality and culture. South Beach moves to a different beat than Brickell, Little Haiti, or Coconut Grove. Yet, the combination of these pockets are what make Miami so eclectic and vibrant. Thanks to Miami’s local newsletter, The New Tropic, you can find out a little more about this fabulous city by brushing up on the history of its neighborhoods.
It’s getting too hot to wear anything more than a swimsuit, and since this is Miami, it’s only right we make it an actual event. July 15-21 is the Official Miami Swim Week, where models strut their stuff in the latest swimwear fashions from top name designers. From catwalks to pool parties, and everything in between, Miami celebrates the beach life in style.
Locals already knew. Miami has ALWAYS been a good idea. If you needed further evidence to invest your time and money into this booming metropolis, check out World Property Journal’s article that states “Technology companies and other businesses are moving to Miami largely because of the region’s top-tier cultural offerings, outdoor lifestyle, and affordability compared to other major cities around the globe.”
Local foodies, unite! Summer season means less tourists, and less tourists means more tables for us in the hottest restaurants! Thrillist recently blessed us (as it has the tendency to do, thank you Matt Meltzer) with a compact list of 17 NEW restaurants to try out in South Florida. Add these to your summer “to-do” list before the crowds start to pick up again in November.
The crowds are thinning and the humidity is thickening. What better way to escape the heat than theater-hopping through Miami’s plethora of cool, artsy film houses? Catch independent films from both established and emerging filmmakers in the Magic City. Miami Film Month lasts the entire month of June.
Is it possible to have too many mangos? File this under “problems Miamians enjoy having” (and we have a lot – our ice cream melts too fast in the hot sun, avocado season ends too quickly, looking at beautiful people all the time gets tiring…). If you are one of many lucky locals with access to a mango tree, you might be scrambling for ideas of what to do with all these mangos! Thank goodness the New Tropic decided to tackle the problem early.
